Leonardo da Vinci
Italian Renaissance polymath (1452–1519) whose paintings (Mona Lisa, Last Supper) and notebooks (with designs for flying machines, anatomy, hydraulics, weapons) embodied the Renaissance ideal of the universal man, curiosity without limit.
Leonardo da Vinci is the Renaissance's most complete embodiment of its central ideal: that human reason, properly educated, can comprehend and master all domains of knowledge and creation.
